From Muay Thai to triathlon: Bahrain showcases sporting diversity at 3rd Asian Youth Games
Manama, Oct. 23 (BNA): Bahraini athletes continued to demonstrate steady progress at the 3rd Asian Youth Games, competing across multiple sports with a mix of results that reflected effort and growing experience.
In Muay Thai, Abbas Fadhel advanced to the round of 16 after defeating India’s Meitei in the 60kg category, while Sayed Alawi Abdulla and Ali Hamed lost to opponents from Cambodia and Lebanon.
In teqball, Rawan Abdulaziz and Fatima Al Banna delivered a close match against the Philippines in the girls’ doubles event, narrowly missing out on third place but earning praise for their strong debut performance.
In beach volleyball, the girls’ team lost to Indonesia in straight sets, while the boys’ team fell to Qatar 2–1 after a competitive match.
In golf, Yaqoob Rahma, Abdulrahman Mehaizea, and Khalid Shah began their participation aiming for consistent performances against strong regional competitors.
In boxing, Mohamed Attia lost to China’s Guan Yiwen, and the kabaddi team was defeated by Bangladesh despite showing determination throughout the match.
In athletics, Shaikha Mubarak finished fifth in the girls’ 100m, while Yousif Ayman and Wissam Al Obeidan placed seventh. Talal Al Doseri came eighth in the 400m race.
In triathlon, Albara Al Romaihi, Omar Yasser, and Adel Al Malki recorded mid-field finishes, while Sofya Al Oraibi and Lulwa Al Doseri placed 20th and 21st respectively, in a developmental step for the sport in Bahrain.
