Rome, May 10 (BNA): Peyton Stearns pulled off a major upset at the Rome Open, defeating fellow American and fifth seed Madison Keys 2–6, 6–2, 7–6 to reach the fourth round.

This marks the second consecutive time that the 23-year-old Stearns advances to the Round of 16 in a WTA 1000 tournament. It is also her second career victory over a top-10 player, following her win against Zheng Qinwen in Dubai.

Ranked 42nd in the world, the highest of her career, Stearns has shown strong form on clay courts. She recently reached the fourth round in Madrid, where she secured a surprise win over Amanda Anisimova.
