Preparations in full swing for World Weightlifting Championships
Manama, Nov. 25 (BNA): Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), the World Weightlifting Championships will be held at a venue across the Bahrain National Theatre from December 4-15.
The committee responsible for television transmission has been pivotal in coordinating the broadcast of the championship.
Jubran Al Khaja, Chairman of the TV Broadcasting Committee, announced that the organising committee has contracted Flamingo as the official broadcaster.
He emphasised the importance of close collaboration between Flamingo and the Bahrain Sports Channel to ensure that all championship events are televised in a manner that meets international standards. Al Khaja noted, "This collaboration reflects Bahrain’s commitment to showcasing its logistical capabilities and organisational expertise on a global stage."
He further remarked on the strong support from prominent sports leaders, including His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the SCYS. Their leadership underscores Bahrain's aspiration to be a key venue for hosting major international sports events.
He added: "The successful bid for Bahrain to host the upcoming World Weightlifting Championship is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation, led by Eshaq Ebrahim Eshaq. His leadership has been instrumental in building the confidence of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) in Bahrain's capabilities to organise such a prestigious event."
The integrity of the competition is being safeguarded by the Bahrain Anti-Doping Organisation, which has been tasked with collaborating with the International Anti-Doping Committee. Saad Al Nefaie, Executive Officer of the agency, outlined the agency's role in ensuring compliance with international doping regulations. "Our efforts will include the coordination of testing procedures and the training of personnel to uphold the highest standards in doping control," he stated. This proactive approach is crucial for maintaining the championship's credibility and the athletes' health.
The Bahrain International Airport is preparing for a surge in activity as delegations arrive for the championship. Abdullah Al Ghadeer, Chairman of the Reception, Transportation, and Housing Committee, confirmed that the committee is making extensive arrangements to welcome international delegations. He noted that the delegation from the IWF is expected to arrive shortly, with additional teams, including those from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan, already in the country for pre-event training camps.
