Kuwait, Oct. 23 (BNA): Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said member states have made major strides in environmental action, translating their commitments into ambitious initiatives and pioneering projects that strengthened their role in global climate and environmental efforts.

Speaking at the 27th meeting of GCC ministers responsible for environmental affairs, held in Kuwait and chaired by Tareq Sulaiman Al Roumi, Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment of Kuwait, Al Budaiwi said emission reduction and renewable energy policies have become central to GCC strategies for building low carbon economies that balance growth with resource conservation.

He noted that GCC countries are aligning national policies with global frameworks, including the 2015 Paris Agreement, and are actively contributing to international efforts toward carbon neutrality and sustainable development. The GCC General Secretariat, he said, continues to coordinate joint environmental action through unified policies that support economic and development goals.

Al Budaiwi added that member states have taken pioneering steps to diversify energy sources, improve efficiency, expand the use of treated water, and invest in clean energy and hydrogen technologies. He highlighted their adoption of the circular carbon economy model to reduce, reuse, recycle, and remove emissions sustainably.
