Tokyo, Apr. 9 (BNA): The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), in collaboration with Bahrain-based Shepherd Studio, has unveiled a special edition helmet that blends Bahraini craftsmanship with innovation. This initiative is part of the Kingdom’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, reflecting a broader vision to showcase local artistry and creative design on the global stage.

The helmet made its debut at the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka Circuit, worn by Australian driver Oscar Piastri of the McLaren F1 team. It stands as a striking representation of cultural connections reinterpreting tradition through a modern lens while embracing cross-cultural artistic collaboration. Inspired by traditional Japanese sumi-e ink paintings, the design underscores the dynamic partnership between McLaren and Bahraini creatives, while highlighting the vital role of culture in today’s creative and manufacturing sectors.

This special edition helmet aligns with the theme of the Kingdom of Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka: "Connecting Seas." It symbolises the longstanding ties between Bahrain and Japan particularly in the world of Formula 1. Both nations are home to two of the sport’s most iconic circuits: Japan’s Suzuka Circuit and Bahrain International Circuit, the latter recognised as the home of motorsport in the Middle East and the first in the region to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Notably, the helmet was designed and produced in the Kingdom of Bahrain by Racing Force, the global company behind Bell Racing helmets. Its state-of-the-art production facility, located in Sakhir near Bahrain International Circuit, spans approximately 12,000 square metres.

The helmet will be a key feature of the Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, opening on 13 April 2025 in the "Empowering Lives" zone. Designed by architect Lina Ghotmeh, the pavilion offers an immersive architectural and cultural experience that tells the story of the Kingdom’s enduring connection with the sea and highlights its historic role as a maritime hub and a key port for cultural and civilisational exchange.

Following its debut at Suzuka Circuit, the helmet will be displayed at the Pavilion as a symbol that seamlessly blends heritage, art, and innovation expressing Bahrain’s forward-looking vision of celebrating its cultural legacy on the global stage.

Visitors to Expo 2025 Osaka are invited to discover this special edition and engage with an experience that reflects the values of connection, craftsmanship, and innovation values that originate in the heart of Bahrain and resonate around the world.
