Gold price rise above $5,200
Singapore, Jan. 28 (BNA): Gold broke through $5,200 for the first time on Wednesday.
Spot gold jumped 1.4% to $5,262.66 per ounce, as of 0558 GMT, after scaling a record high of $5,266.37 earlier. It has gained more than 20% since the start of the year, Reuters reported.
U.S. gold futures for February delivery surged 3.4% to $5,255.30 per ounce.
Spot silver was up 2% at $115.40 an ounce, after hitting a record high of $117.69 on Monday. The white metal has jumped almost 60% so far this year.
Spot platinum gained 1.7% to $2,685.16 per ounce after hitting a record $2,918.80 on Monday, while palladium was up 0.7% at $1,946.75.
