US inflation edges up to 2.8% in September

New York, Dec. 5 (BNA): US inflation rose to 2.8% year-on-year in September, according to data released today, remaining above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target.
The Consumer Price Index, the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation, had increased by 2.7% in August.
Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, also stood at 2.8% in September, marking a slight decline of 0.1 percentage point from the previous month.
