Bahrain’s Permanent Representative addresses UN Security Council on global governance reform
Manama, Feb. 21 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the open debate of the Security Council titled "Maintaining International Peace and Security: Practicing Multilateralism and Reforming and Improving Global Governance," chaired by His Excellency Wang Yi, the Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China.
During the session, Bahrain underscored its commitment to enhancing multilateralism and reforming global governance to ensure the United Nations’ ability to address the current international challenges.
In Bahrain’s statement at the session, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Ruwaie, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, emphasised the role of the United Nations in preserving global stability.
He said that the escalation of armed conflicts, emerging security threats, and rapid technological advancements necessitate enhanced international cooperation.
He emphasised the need for reforming the United Nations to adapt to changing geopolitical dynamics, underscoring that such reforms should be inclusive, consensus-based, and encompass the Security Council.
The Permanent Representative further emphasised that as the world enters a new era marked by emerging challenges, it is essential to reaffirm our commitment to peace, which serves as the cornerstone for fostering collective prosperity and enduring hope for all.
Ambassador Al Ruwaie highlighted the importance of implementing the ambitious commitments outlined in the Future Charter, which was adopted last September.
He said that achieving these goals requires a comprehensive reform of the international system, including vital multilateral organisations such as the United Nations.
He underscored the importance of collective will and responsibility, building on shared values, and adhering to multilateralism that ensures the prosperity of all nations and contributes to resolving crucial issues, thereby supporting and protecting human dignity.
