Justice Minister receives Sec Gen of International Commercial Dispute Resolution Council
Manama, Mar. 25 (BNA): Nawaf bin Mohammed Al Maawda, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, received Professor Marike Paulsson, Secretary-General of the Council for the Development of International Commercial Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the council’s participation in co-hosting the Regional Judicial Dialogue on the United Nations Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (New York Convention). The event took place during the second edition of Riyadh International Disputes Week, under the Judicial Outreach Programme of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), in partnership with the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration and the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Professor Paulsson highlighted the agreement between Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to enhance effective dispute resolution mechanisms by launching a series of regional roadshows on the application of the New York Convention. The initiative includes the distribution of the ICCA guide and collaboration with Young ICCA to organise parallel events aimed at further developing the international commercial arbitration environment in the region by engaging various stakeholders, with a focus on young legal practitioners.
The Regional Judicial Dialogue marks a significant step towards enhancing the understanding and application of the New York Convention in the region. It provides a platform for judges and legal experts to exchange knowledge and best practices, contributing to the development of the international commercial arbitration framework.
