Bahraini parliamentary delegation concludes participation in sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament
Geneva, Aug. 1 (BNA): A delegation Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division, led by Jamal Mohamed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, has concluded its participation in the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, held in Geneva.
The event was organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in cooperation with the United Nations.
The Bahraini delegation joined representatives from 115 national parliaments, including 102 Speakers, 34 Deputy Speakers, 14 observer organisations, and six associate members.
The Bahraini delegation included MP Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives; and Dr. Bassam Ismail Al Binmohammed, member of the Shura Council’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security.
The conference concluded with the adoption of a high-level declaration under the theme "A World in Turmoil: Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace and Justice for All."
Delegates also reviewed reports from several key panel discussions, which explored timely topics such as women’s and youth engagement in parliament during times of polarisation and crisis; innovation and new solutions for a more peaceful future; opportunities for enhanced international cooperation in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030; and the role of parliaments in shaping the digital landscape.
