Shura Council Secretary General meets IPU Secretary General on launch of sustainability report
Geneva, Oct. 23 (BNA): Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary General of the Shura Council, met with Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), to discuss the launch of a new report by the Shura Council Secretariat General promoting sustainability in legislative work.
The report, the first of its kind among legislative bodies worldwide, reviews the Council’s performance during the sixth legislative term in areas of environment, governance, and society.
Al Abbasi said the report is inspired by the Royal speeches of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which serve as a roadmap for advancing legislative achievements and supporting Bahrain’s progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. She commended the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for promoting institutional excellence and balancing economic growth with social and legislative sustainability.
On the sidelines of the 151st IPU General Assembly, Al Abbasi presented the report to Chungong and emphasised the Secretariat General’s commitment to sharing expertise, advancing digital transformation, and integrating artificial intelligence in legislative support systems.
Chungong commended the Secretariat General for preparing a high quality report that reflects Bahrain’s commitment to sustainable development and innovation in parliamentary work, describing it as a leading model in digital governance and institutional development.
