Bahrain’s parliamentary group requests full membership in PAM

Rome, Feb. 21 (BNA): The delegation of Bahrain’s parliamentary group, led by Dr. Jehad Abdullah Al Fadhel, Second Deputy Chairperson of the Shura Council, participated in the 19th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), held in Rome from February 19-21. During the session, the delegation formally submitted Bahrain’s request for full and permanent membership in PAM.

The delegation delivered an official letter from Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chair of the Parliamentary Group’s Executive Committee, underscored Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening its parliamentary role within this important regional and international organisation.

The request highlights Bahrain’s dedication to fostering dialogue and collaboration on shared global challenges.

In her address to the Assembly, Dr. Al Fadhel emphasised Bahrain’s strong commitment to legislative diplomacy under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the continued support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

She underscored the role of the legislative authority in advancing national development, enhancing international cooperation, and formulating policies to address global challenges.

Dr. Al Fadhel also highlighted Bahrain’s proactive engagement in PAM since joining as an observer, noting its commitment to building strong relations with member states and actively participating in parliamentary discussions.

She emphasised the importance of parliamentary dialogue, the exchange of ideas, and expanding cooperation to strengthen ties between member countries

She noted that the request for full membership reflects Bahrain’s recognition of PAM as a key international parliamentary platform and aligns with the country’s legislative aspirations for greater regional and global engagement.

She underscored the delegation’s commitment to contribute alongside other GCC legislative bodies that have previously joined PAM, furthering political, economic, and developmental cooperation between the Mediterranean and the Gulf.

Dr. Al Fadhel highlighted that regional and international parliamentary cooperation is a strategic pathway to achieving shared objectives in peace and sustainable development.
