Bowen, July 31 (BNA): The first Australian-made rocket to attempt reaching orbit crashed just 14 seconds after liftoff on Wednesday.

The 23-meter Eris rocket, developed by Gilmour Space Technologies, launched from a site near Bowen in Queensland during a test flight. It briefly lifted off before losing altitude and crashing. No injuries were reported, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The mission marked the first attempt to launch an Australian-designed and manufactured orbital rocket from domestic soil.
