Manama, Feb. 20 (BNA): Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, inaugurated Hamad Town Walkway as part of Bahrain Sports Day celebrations, organised by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.

Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, was present.

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah emphasised that advancing public health infrastructure and sustainable urban development remain national priorities, in line with the development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah highlighted the government’s commitment to sustainable cities, which balance health, environmental, economic, and social needs, providing an integrated lifestyle with facilities that improve the quality of life and encourage regular physical activity in residential communities.

Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah commended the ministry’s efforts in developing public walkways and open spaces, in coordination with relevant authorities. He also highlighted its fourth consecutive year of delivering projects aligned with the government's urban development vision, with walkways across various governorates inaugurated on Bahrain Sports Day to reinforce sports as a community culture.

Minister Al Mubarak emphasised that Hamad Town Walkway reflects the government’s commitment, under the leadership of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to expanding public facilities that meet citizens' needs and provide health and environmental benefits.

The minister thanked Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah for the government’s continued support of development projects, particularly through the Ministerial Committee for Development and Infrastructure Projects, and for his participation in the annual opening of new walkways on Bahrain Sports Day.

Minister Al Mubarak added that Hamad Town Walkway is part of an urban development strategy, completed in collaboration with the Northern Municipal Council and supported by the Ministry of Works, which provides parking spaces for visitors, ensuring an integrated and accessible public space.

Hamad Town Walkway, situated along Shaikh Hamad Street near Roundabout 12, spans 1.4 kilometres and covers a total area of 15,000 square metres, including 7,500 square metres of green spaces with over 370 shade trees.

The walkway features solar-powered lighting to support environmental sustainability and offers over 70 parking spaces for visitors. It is equipped with shaded warm-up stations, dedicated children's play areas with rubber flooring, and inclusive facilities designed to accommodate people of determination. Additionally, the site includes a commercial shop and restrooms, ensuring convenience for all visitors.
