Geneva, Oct. 20 (BNA): Bahrain's parliamentary delegation participated in the second session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, held as part of the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, member of the Shura Council and member of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, emphasised that the Kingdom guarantees Bahraini women the right to political participation and decision-making, in accordance with the Constitution and national laws, without legislative or societal restrictions.

She highlighted the unwavering support and continuous care Bahraini women receive from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister; and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).

Al Zayed commended the continued efforts and roles undertaken by the SCW, particularly in creating training programmes and strategies aimed at promoting women’s leadership in political work, supporting gender-responsive budgets, and enhancing women's status and role in decision-making positions. She noted that female parliamentarians are provided with programmes and workshops that strengthen their legislative performance, in addition to enjoying the confidence and support of their male counterparts.

She further noted the achievements of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in empowering women and advancing their leadership and influence in the workforce.

Al Zayed pointed to the gradual increase in the number of women in parliament and their leadership of several committees in both the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives.

She added that Bahrain is working towards achieving a high standard of political participation. The focus has shifted from ensuring women's presence to empowering them, and now to making a meaningful impact. She noted that young women are being encouraged to take part in political life as a national responsibility, and that both families and society have shown strong support for female candidates in parliamentary and municipal elections.
