Syrian player Naw advances as Kuwaiti Qabazard exits in first round of Manama Open tennis Championship
Manama, Nov. 13 (BNA): The round of 32 matches in the Manama Open Tennis Championship continued into the second week, with a series of strong and exciting contests completed yesterday. The tournament, organised by the Bahrain Tennis Federation, runs from November 10-17 on the courts of the Public Security Officers Club in Qudaibiya.
Syrian player Hazem Naw beat Russia’s Pavel Verbin 6-3, 6-4, and Germany’s Maximilian Homberg defeated Bulgaria’s Petr Nesterov 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin beat Ukraine’s Volodymyr Yakubenko 6-2, 6-2. Romania’s Vladislav Melnik defeated Kuwait’s Essa Qabazard 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Ireland’s Kian Maguire beat India’s Aniketh Venkataraman 6-0, 6-0.
Germany’s Nino Ehrenschneider defeated Australia’s Benjamin O’Connell 6-4, 5-7, 6-1, and Poland’s Olaf Pieczkowski beat the United Kingdom’s Zaid Stephens 6-3, 6-2. Germany’s Calvin Mueller beat Senegal’s Seydina Andre 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4, while the Netherlands’ Jelle Sels defeated France’s Nicolas Gaidon 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-1.
Russia’s Timofei Derepasko advanced after Georgia’s Aleksandre Bakshi withdrew due to injury. Spain’s Ivan Marrero beat South Africa’s Leo Matthyson 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, Germany’s Richard Antoni and Calvin Mueller beat the German-American and Indian pair Anirudh Rao and Aniketh 6-0, 6-3.
