AGU ranks among top 20% of world universities in 2026 Times Higher Education ranking
Manama, Oct. 9 (BNA): The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) has achieved a new international milestone, advancing in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the second consecutive year. AGU joined the top 20% of universities worldwide, ranking in the 401–500 band out of 2,191 institutions, compared with the 501–600 band last year. This achievement emphasises the university’s steady progress toward its strategic vision and goals.
The THE World University Rankings are among the most prestigious global benchmarks, assessing universities based on five key areas: teaching quality, research environment, research influence, international outlook, and industry engagement. These indicators reflect a university’s ability to deliver high-quality education, produce impactful research, foster global collaboration, and contribute to innovation and sustainable development.
AGU’s progress reflects its growing academic reputation, strong research culture, and active international partnerships. The assessment considered factors such as student–faculty ratios, academic qualifications, research output and impact, institutional resources, and collaboration with industry. The university was also recognised for effectively transforming knowledge into practical applications through industry-linked initiatives, reinforcing its position as a leading centre for innovation.
AGU President Dr. Saad bin Saud Al Fuhaid said the university’s advancement in global rankings is the result of a long-term institutional strategy built on academic and research excellence, innovative programmes in emerging fields, and strong international cooperation. He said the achievement reflects AGU’s commitment to leadership and quality, and its ability to maintain a high standing among global universities through trusted programmes and skilled graduates.
Dr. Adel Kamal, Director of the Quality and Excellence Centre, said AGU’s global standing is the result of continuous achievements that transformed it from a regionally recognised university into a globally trusted institution. He noted that AGU has expanded its academic influence, produced graduates trained to international standards, and maintained a leading position in a highly competitive global ranking through continuous academic and research development aligned with GCC and global development priorities.
AGU is the first higher education institution in Bahrain to be listed in the THE World University Rankings and ranked first nationally in the 2026 edition. The achievement highlights the university’s consistent academic and research performance and supports its growing recognition at the local, regional, and international levels.
