Sharm El Sheikh, Oct. 13 (BNA): Abdel Fattah El Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, said that the Sharm El Sheikh agreement to end the war in Gaza marks a historic moment that closes a painful chapter in the region’s history and opens a new era of peace and stability in the Middle East, offering a better future for the peoples of the region after years of conflict and suffering.

According to the Middel East News Agency (MENA), during the press conference following the signing of the agreement in Sharm El Sheikh, President El Sisi emphasised that the agreement embodies the will of the peoples to achieve peace. He commended the American leadership for its role in reaching this milestone, describing it as true courage in ending wars rather than igniting them.

President El Sisi reiterated Egypt’s longstanding commitment to a just peace based on justice and equality, stressing the Palestinian people’s right to an independent state and to live in freedom and security alongside Israel in peace and mutual recognition.

The Egyptian President expressed appreciation to the United States, the Republic of Türkiye, and the State of Qatar for their efforts, and confirmed Egypt’s continued cooperation with partners to expedite reconstruction work in Gaza. Egypt will host an international conference on recovery and development, building on President Trump’s peace plan.

President El Sisi called on the peoples of the region to regard this historic occasion as the beginning of a new era of cooperation and peaceful coexistence, emphasising that peace must be the permanent choice and that the Gaza war should be the last conflict in the Middle East.

The Egyptian President concluded by announcing Egypt’s decision to award Donald Trump, the US President, the Order of the Nile, the country’s highest honour, in recognition of his efforts supporting peace and regional stability. President Trump received this honour in appreciation of his key role in ending the Gaza war.

President El Sisi stressed that the agreement must be fully upheld and implemented, including the realisation of the two-state solution as part of a shared vision of cooperation among all peoples and states of the region.
