Manama, Oct. 19 (BNA): Mohamed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), participated in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Space Sustainability Forum 2025, organised by the ITU.

The participation reflected the Kingdom’s growing role in the international dialogue on space security and sustainability, and its commitment to keeping pace with the latest developments in the space sector.

The forum, a key event for policymakers, industry leaders, regulators, and space experts, brought together global figures to address the most pressing challenges in space sustainability and explore innovative solutions for the future of space-based systems and exploration.

Key discussions centred on satellite management, the development of exploration from low Earth orbit (LEO) to the Moon, and achieving effective space situational awareness and spectrum management, critical elements for the success of space missions and the safety and sustainability of space-based wireless communication systems.

Dr. Al Aseeri emphasised the strategic importance of the forum as a platform for enhancing international cooperation and building strategic partnerships with leading agencies and organisations in the field. He highlighted the recent signing of a MoU with the Italian Space Agency (ASI) as a prime example. Participation in such events also provides an opportunity to stay informed about the latest technical and policy developments in crucial areas such as space traffic management, coordination of orbital spectrum use, limited resources, and strategies for mitigating space debris.

Furthermore, he noted that the forum contributes to the development of national capacities by enabling knowledge transfer and the adoption of global best practices, thereby empowering Bahraini professionals to take part in shaping the international policies and standards that govern future space activities.

Dr. Al Aseeri noted that the insights gained from the forum will significantly benefit the Agency’s team and future initiatives. Efforts will focus on building capacity in space risk prediction and complex data analysis to prepare for pioneering projects. These insights will also inform the development of a comprehensive national space sustainability strategy, ensuring effective mission management and alignment with international standards. On the innovation front, the BSA will advance research in satellite monitoring technologies and develop technical solutions that support global space sustainability efforts.

These efforts align with the BSA’s vision to localise space sciences and technologies in support of the Kingdom’s sustainable development goals and to strengthen Bahrain’s role as an active contributor in the global space community.
