DANAT organises two webinars on pearls for visitors to Expo 2025 Osaka
Manama, Oct. 2 (BNA): The Bahrain Institute of Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) organised two specialised webinars for visitors to Expo 2025 Osaka, in collaboration with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, to introduce audiences from around the world to the fundamentals of pearls and their cultural, historical and economic value.
The first webinar, titled Introduction to Pearls, presented a comprehensive overview of the history of pearls and their most important features, highlighting the qualities that determine their value and quality. It also gave participants the opportunity to explore natural and cultured pearls and to learn about the latest devices and tools used to examine them.
The second webinar, titled How to Buy and Care for Pearls, covered the heritage and practical aspects of pearls. Participants learned about the history of pearl fishing and the traditional tools and measurements that were once used in evaluating pearls. The session also discussed the factors influencing modern pearl prices, outlined key considerations when purchasing pearls, and stressed the importance of proper care and storage to preserve their natural beauty and long-term value.
The two webinars received strong engagement from participants, who expressed interest in the content, especially since DANAT is regarded as one of the foremost specialised training institutes in this field worldwide.
Noora Jamsheer, Chief Executive Officer of DANAT, underlined that the organisation of these webinars comes as part of the pioneering role of the Institute in preserving and promoting the heritage of Bahraini pearls in international forums. She noted that Expo 2025 Osaka represented a valuable opportunity to share DANAT’s expertise and Bahrain’s longstanding experience in pearls with the international community, as pearls constitute a key element of Bahrain’s cultural and national identity, with generations of merchants and families historically connected to their trade and extraction.
She added that DANAT bears a responsibility to transfer the Kingdom’s rich expertise and to raise awareness of the importance of pearls among new generations, which it aims to achieve through these educational initiatives. Building bridges of communication with the Expo 2025 Osaka audience enables the highlighting of the Kingdom’s role as a leading destination in the pearl and jewellery sector, and reinforces its image as a trusted global hub for pearl inspection, documentation and trade.
